Since
1940, Vallin Galleries have been purveyors of fine Chinese
and Asian art and antiques. Peter Rosenberg is the second
generation owner of the business started by his mother, Josephine.
The galleries, featuring ceramics furniture, sculpture and
textiles, are housed in an 18th Century Salt Box overlooking
the Norwalk River circa 1719,
and attract museum curators, art dealers, serious collectors
and, most appealingly interested beginners.
Objects
from the galleries can be found at The Metropolitan Museum
of Art, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Los Angeles County
Museum, The Peabody Essex Museum, and the Yale Museum of Art,
among other educational institutions. Comparable objects have
found their way into some of the finest American and international
private collections.
"While
part of the pleasure of this profession comes from finding
and presenting exceptional material," Peter says, "the
greater pleasure comes from welcoming to the gallery people
who are serious collectors or people who are just dipping
their toe into the water for the first time."
Currently
on display at Vallin galleries are exceptional examples of
Ming and Qing furniture, as well as four pairs of monumental
Buddhist Lions. |
