finely painted famille verte enameled circular covered
tureen displaying alternating sprays of chrysanthemum
and tree peony blossoms on the sides, top and, (rarely
found) inside the basin. The upper registers of the
basin and lip of the rim are decorated with lattice
designs, suggesting a Japanese destination.

RARE
AND IMPORTANT CHINESE ROSE-VERTE CHARGER
The
charger depicts the ancient Daoist ceremonial themes
native to China for almost 3000 years: on the outer
rim, the Eight Daoist Immortals (Baxian) are shown,
together with their trademark symbols, each inside of
elaborately drawn cartouches, On the interior the Eight
Magic Trigrams (baqua) surround the Energy Symbol (YinYang).
The
charger displays the earliest applications of pink and
white in the overglaze enamel palette, taught to the
Chinese by Jesuits visiting the Imperial Court.
