carved smokey agate covered seal paste box. The cover
shows an exquisitely carved figure of a boy on a rock
amid scrolling vines utilizing the original white skin.
The imperial reign mark is shown, carved into the base.

condition, except for one fissure ending in a crack.

golden-beige marble enclosing a carved piece of grainy
pure calcite. This marble is very likely from a deposit
quarried for hundreds of years in suburban Beijing.
I.M. Pei used it in the construction of the Fragrant
Hills Hotel near Beijing. The low relief carving depicts
Butai.
